Clean Cooking Initiative – Promoting Safe & Sustainable Cooking in Uganda

 Project Overview

In Uganda, millions of households rely on charcoal, firewood, and other traditional biomass fuels for cooking, leading to deforestation, indoor air pollution, and serious health risks. In response, Orii Energy launched the Clean Cooking Initiative to provide affordable, energy efficient, and ecofriendly cooking solutions to households, schools, and businesses across Uganda.

 Project Goals

  • Reduce indoor air pollution and improve public health.
  • Decrease reliance on firewood and charcoal to combat deforestation.
  • Promote energy efficient and cost effective cooking technologies.
  • Empower communities, especially women, with sustainable energy solutions.

 Our Approach

Orii Energy is deploying clean cooking solutions that are accessible, sustainable, and tailored to the needs of local communities. The initiative focuses on:

  • Improved Cookstoves: Distributing high efficiency biomass and LPG cookstoves that reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
  • Biogas Cooking Systems: Supporting the use of biogas digesters that convert organic waste into clean cooking fuel.
  • Electric Cooking Solutions: Promoting solar powered and grid based electric cookers for modern, emission free cooking.
  • Community Training & Awareness: Conducting workshops on clean cooking benefits, safe usage, and maintenance.
  • Affordable Financing Models: Providing flexible payment options to make clean cooking solutions accessible to low-income families.

 Impact & Benefits

  • Over 10,000 households and institutions now use clean cooking technologies.
  • A significant reduction in deforestation and carbon emissions.
  • Women and children experience improved health and safety due to reduced smoke exposure.
  • Families save up to 50% on fuel costs by switching to energy efficient cooking.
  • Schools and community kitchens benefit from faster, cleaner, and more efficient cooking systems.

 Community Engagement & Sustainability

  • To ensure the long term success of the initiative, Orii Energy:
  • Works with local artisans to manufacture and distribute cookstoves.
  • Trains women entrepreneurs to become clean cooking ambassadors.
  • Collaborates with government agencies to promote clean cooking policies.
  • Offers subsidies and microloan programs to support low-income households.

 Looking Ahead

Orii Energy aims to expand this initiative to more rural and urban communities in Uganda, reaching 100,000 households in the next five years. Through continued partnerships, donations, and advocacy, we are committed to making clean cooking accessible to all, improving health, environmental sustainability, and economic wellbeing.
